The Archetypal Journey
Join us for a transformative weekend at the beautiful Whidbey Institute, where the natural surroundings provide a powerful container for deep inner exploration and renewal. This immersive program combines Holotropic Breathworkwith an archetypal approach to personal development, offering participants a unique opportunity to access expanded states of consciousness and engage the deeper dimensions of the psyche.
Rooted in the pioneering work of Stanislav Grof, Holotropic Breathwork uses intentional breathing, evocative music, and focused bodywork to facilitate profound inner experiences. Building on this foundation, James Frazier has thoughtfully integrated neo-shamanic and archetypal principles into the Grof model, enriching the breathwork process with additional symbolic, ritual, and experiential dimensions. This expanded framework invites participants to engage not only personal and biographical material, but also the mythic and transpersonal layers of consciousness that inform meaning, purpose, and transformation.
Throughout the weekend, we will work within an archetypal framework, focusing on the foundational patterns of the King/Queen, Warrior, Magician, and Lover. These archetypes represent core dimensions of human experience—leadership and order, courage and action, insight and transformation, and connection and vitality. By exploring these patterns, participants can recognize how these energies are expressed, imbalanced, or underdeveloped in their lives, and begin to cultivate a more integrated and empowered relationship to them.
The breathwork experiences will be thoughtfully integrated through creative expression, reflective practices, and group dialogue, supporting the process of grounding insight into lived experience. Christina Sell and James Frazier bring decades of experience guiding individuals and groups through powerful inner work, creating a safe, skillful, and compassionate environment that honors both individual process and collective presence.
This weekend is designed for those seeking meaningful personal growth, emotional healing, and a deeper connection to the symbolic and spiritual dimensions of life. Whether you are new to breathwork or experienced in inner practices, this program offers a rich and supportive space to explore, expand, and integrate.

Holotropic Breathwork is an experiential practice that uses accelerated breathing, evocative music, and focused body awareness to access expanded states of consciousness. It supports emotional release, self-exploration, and the integration of unresolved psychological material. Many people use it as a tool for personal growth, healing, and connecting with deeper layers of the psyche.
-
In a Holotropic Breathwork session, you can expect a guided process that combines intentional, accelerated breathing with carefully selected music to support an inward journey. Participants often lie down with eyes closed, allowing experiences—emotional, physical, or imaginal—to arise naturally, while trained facilitators provide support as needed. The session typically concludes with time for integration, such as quiet reflection, drawing, or sharing, to help make sense of the experience.

Whidbey Island does not have a major commercial airport, so most travelers fly into nearby regional or international airports and then continue by car, shuttle, or ferry. The most convenient and commonly used airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), which offers extensive domestic and international flights and is located about 1–1.5 hours from the Mukilteo ferry terminal or a roughly 2-hour drive to the island via Deception Pass Bridge.
A second excellent option is Paine Field (Everett, PAE), a smaller regional airport located about 15–20 minutes from the Mukilteo ferry. This airport offers a quieter, more streamlined travel experience with limited commercial routes, making it an increasingly popular choice for visitors.
For those coming from the Pacific Northwest or Western Canada, Bellingham International Airport (BLI) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) are also viable options, particularly if you plan to approach Whidbey Island from the north via Deception Pass Bridge.
There are also several small regional and seaplane airports closer to the island, but these are typically used for private or charter flights rather than standard commercial travel.
In most cases, flying into Seattle-Tacoma or Paine Field and then renting a car or arranging ground transportation offers the most straightforward and flexible route to Whidbey Island.
